Sallie Ann Authentic Gullah Tours

Morning and Afternoon Tours – 11 AM – 2 PM or 2 PM-5 PM – TUESDAY through SATURDAY

When you step off the ferry, Sallie Ann Robinson will be waiting to take you on a comfortable bus tour of historic Daufuskie.  Sallie Ann is a sixth generation native of Daufuskie Island and recognized TV personality, celebrity chef, and spokesperson for preserving the legacy of Gullah culture.  During the next 3 hours, Sallie will fascinate you as she makes the history of Daufuskie come alive by sharing her many stories about growing up as a child on bridge-less Daufuskie Island and attending the two-room school where she was one of author Pat Conroy’s students.  Your ferry boat ride back to Bluffton is sure to include lively conversation.

Offered at 11AM and 2PM on Tuesdays through Saturdays. $60 per person. Call 843-686-2227

Here’s a little more info about what Sallie Anne has planned for you:

When you land on Daufuskie Island you will see the beauty and feel how peaceful it is. You will get to visit the Daufuskie Museum and Library, the Oyster Hall, the 138-year-old First Union African Baptist Church, the Mary Field School built by the natives in 1934 and where Pat Conroy taught Sallie Ann Robinson during the 1969/70 school year and the Mary Field Cemetery that is the largest graveyard dating back to the 1800*s.  Daufuskie Island still has many of its original dirt roads that intertwine all over the Island with beautiful large live oak tress draped in moss. You will also get to see and learn much more about other Daufuskie Island history while on the tour. Catch the 10AM ferry over and return at 2:30 or catch the 1PM ferry over and return at 5:30 (For ferry reservations, 843-940-7704).
